About this material
Dimethyl carbonate is the thinner of the two workhorse linear carbonates. Adding it to an EC-based blend drops viscosity, raises conductivity and pushes the freezing point down, which is why EC/DMC is the base of most standard formulations.
Its flash point of 17 °C makes it the most flammable component on the bench. It also hydrolyses slowly in the presence of base, so keep it dry and away from alkaline contamination — the methanol released shows up as a rising water number on the CoA.
Documentation, controls and care
Quality controls
- Certificate of analysis per batch
- Moisture by Karl Fischer, reported per lot
- Trace metal screening
- Retained samples held for 12 months
Handling & storage
- Flammable liquid with a 17 °C flash point — handle away from ignition sources and bond containers when dispensing.
- Keep sealed and dry; moisture ingress raises the water number and generates methanol.
- Store at 15–25 °C, away from strong bases and oxidisers.

Specification values are typical windows compiled from public technical references and supplier
datasheets, and are provided for selection guidance only. The specification delivered against your
order is agreed in writing, and measured values are confirmed on the batch certificate of analysis.
