About this material
Ethylene carbonate is the one solvent a graphite cell cannot do without. It reduces irreversibly on the anode surface in the first charge, building the SEI that passivates graphite for the rest of the cell’s life. Without it, the electrolyte decomposes continuously and the cell has no cycle life at all.
It is a solid at room temperature, melting at 36–38 °C, which is why electrolyte plants melt it before blending. Warm the sealed container to 40–45 °C until fully liquid and mix thoroughly — the solid and liquid phases have different compositions, so a partly melted drum gives an off-specification blend.
Documentation, controls and care
Quality controls
- Certificate of analysis per batch
- Moisture by Karl Fischer, reported per lot
- Trace metal screening
- Retained samples held for 12 months
Handling & storage
- Warm sealed containers to 40–45 °C to melt before dispensing; never open partially melted material.
- Hygroscopic — dispense under dry air or argon and reseal immediately.
- Store at 15–30 °C away from oxidisers; keep away from ignition sources.
Grades on this page are references used to describe capability; they are not a fixed product list.
Specification values are typical windows compiled from public technical references and supplier
datasheets, and are provided for selection guidance only. The specification delivered against your
order is agreed in writing, and measured values are confirmed on the batch certificate of analysis.
