About this material
Two additives do most of the SEI work in modern lithium-ion cells. Vinylene carbonate polymerises on the graphite surface into a thin, flexible film that improves cycle life; fluoroethylene carbonate does the same for silicon and sodium anodes, where a LiF-rich interphase is more stable.
Dosage is narrow. One to three percent VC improves cycling; above five percent it raises impedance and generates gas at elevated temperature. FEC runs 2–5 percent in silicon-containing cells, and is essentially mandatory above 10 percent silicon.
Documentation, controls and care
Quality controls
- Certificate of analysis per batch
- Moisture by Karl Fischer, reported per lot
- Trace metal screening
- Retained samples held for 12 months
Handling & storage
- Both are moisture-sensitive liquids; dispense under argon into a septum vial.
- FEC is a fluorinated compound — avoid skin contact and use nitrile gloves plus a fume hood.
- Store away from light and oxidisers; VC polymerises slowly on prolonged air and light exposure.

Specification values are typical windows compiled from public technical references and supplier
datasheets, and are provided for selection guidance only. The specification delivered against your
order is agreed in writing, and measured values are confirmed on the batch certificate of analysis.
