01 / OVERVIEW

About this material

SBR gives an electrode its elasticity. A graphite anode expands and contracts by 4–6% during cycling, and a rigid binder cracks under that strain; a rubbery one stretches. The low glass transition temperature is what makes the difference, and it is specified per lot.

SBR is never used alone. CMC thickens the slurry and anchors the binder to the copper foil, while SBR provides the cohesion. The usual ratio is 1.5–3% SBR with 1–2% CMC, added as the last step to avoid shear-induced coagulation.

04 / QUALITY & HANDLING

Documentation, controls and care

Quality controls

  • Certificate of analysis per batch
  • Moisture by Karl Fischer, reported per lot
  • Trace metal screening
  • Retained samples held for 12 months

Handling & storage

  • Store between 5 and 25 °C; freezing coagulates the emulsion irreversibly.
  • Stir gently before use — do not high-shear mix the neat emulsion.
  • Add as the final component after CMC and active material are dispersed.

Grades on this page are references used to describe capability; they are not a fixed product list.
Specification values are typical windows compiled from public technical references and supplier
datasheets, and are provided for selection guidance only. The specification delivered against your
order is agreed in writing, and measured values are confirmed on the batch certificate of analysis.
