About this material
Silicon stores lithium by alloying rather than intercalation, which gives it roughly 3579 mAh/g at full lithiation — ten times graphite. Nanoparticles shorten the diffusion path enough to avoid pulverisation, but the volume change remains: about 300% from pristine to Li3.75Si.
That expansion is why nano-silicon is never used neat. It is carbon-coated, blended at 5–10% into graphite, and held together with PAA. Expect a first-cycle efficiency of 75–85% and plan for pre-lithiation if full-cell energy matters.
Documentation, controls and care
Quality controls
- Certificate of analysis per batch
- Moisture by Karl Fischer, reported per lot
- Trace metal screening
- Retained samples held for 12 months
Handling & storage
- Pyrophoric in fine size ranges and moisture-sensitive: handle in an argon glove box.
- Reacts with water to release hydrogen — never open on a bench or near ignition sources.
- Respirable dust hazard; use P3 respiratory protection for any handling outside a box.
Grades on this page are references used to describe capability; they are not a fixed product list.
Specification values are typical windows compiled from public technical references and supplier
datasheets, and are provided for selection guidance only. The specification delivered against your
order is agreed in writing, and measured values are confirmed on the batch certificate of analysis.
