A coin cell laboratory line is the fastest way to validate electrode formulations, electrolytes and process windows before committing to pilot production. This guide maps each process step to the laboratory equipment that performs it, so you can check that your planned line has no gaps.
1. Slurry Mixing
Active material, conductive additive and binder are dispersed in solvent under vacuum to remove entrapped air and prevent oxidation. Two mixer formats cover most laboratory needs: the SZ-XZKJB-500ml planetary vacuum mixer (500 mL vessel, up to 600 rpm, built-in vacuum pump down to -0.08 MPa, three programmable speed stages) for programmed multi-stage recipes, and the SZ-AX-2000 vacuum mixer with interchangeable 50/150/500 mL vessels for flexible batch sizes. Where slurry must be filtered before coating, the SZ-G1L slurry filtration system processes 600 mL per batch at -65 kPa, with 80–120 mesh recommended for lithium-battery slurry.
2. Coating and Drying
Electrode films are coated onto current collectors with a doctor-blade or applicator coater. The SZ-TMJ-200 laboratory film coating machine offers 0–100 mm/s coating speed, a 250 mm stroke, 0.01 mm film-thickness resolution and PID-controlled drying up to 150 °C. The SZ-TMJ-200E automatic coating and drying machine adds a touchscreen, programmable stroke and holding time, and ships with a vacuum pump and digital micrometer applicator. Coated electrodes and separators are then dried — the SZ-DZF-6020 vacuum drying oven covers RT+10 to 250 °C with ±0.5 °C fluctuation, while the SZ-FDO-25L forced-air drying oven handles general drying tasks and includes a vacuum pump.
3. Calendering
Dried electrode sheets are compacted to the target density and thickness. The SZ-GYJ-100B electric rolling press uses Φ100 × 200 mm rollers in 9Cr2Mo steel hardened to HRC62, with a 0–3 mm adjustable gap and 0–4 m/min stepless speed. Where heated calendering is required, the SZ-GYJ-100D electric heated rolling press adds roller heating with digital display.
4. Electrode and Separator Punching
Electrodes are punched to disc format. The SZ-CPJ-20 manual punching machine covers 2032/2025/2016 formats with ±0.015 mm accuracy on 0.01–0.5 mm material, ships with Φ12 and Φ16 electrode and separator dies, and fits through a glovebox antechamber above 230 mm diameter.
5. Cell Assembly and Crimping
Cells are assembled — typically inside a glovebox — and sealed. Three crimping options cover different lab utilities: the SZ-YYFK-20 manual hydraulic crimper (0–200 kg/cm², factory-set 80 kg/cm²), the SZ-YYFK-20E electric touchscreen crimper (digitally adjustable up to 1000 kg), and the SZ-QFKJ-20 pneumatic crimper (0.7–1.0 MPa gas supply, recommended 0.9 MPa crimping pressure). For post-test teardown analysis, the SZ-YYFK-20D disassembly die set opens CR20-series cells. Research formats such as the split coin cell kit and three-electrode cell support mechanistic studies.
